# Ethaor > Torah Quest | *map* · *read* · *search* · *count*. Ethaor is the Hebrew Bible — the Tanakh, Mechon Mamre edition, fully pointed — on one zoomable map, read in pointed Hebrew, searched by its letters and counted by gematria. Ethaor runs entirely in the browser: Rust compiled to WebAssembly paints the map, and the searches run on the visitor's machine. What the page computes is also open to scripts and AI agents through a public JSON API at https://ethaor.com/api — no key, no account. - Places are named in OSIS: a book `Gen`, a chapter `Gen.1`, a verse `1Sam.3.4`. Answers name each place every way at once: OSIS, English (`Genesis 1:1`), Hebrew (`בראשית א,א`). - `GET /api` describes every endpoint as an MCP tool: `name`, `description`, `input_schema` (JSON Schema, unknown parameters refused) and its error codes. - Counts are exact (`total`); pages follow `next_offset`; `limit=0` only counts. - A search may be kept to a part of the text: `portion` (`torah`, `neviim`, `ketuvim`), `book`, `chapter`, or `from`/`to`. ## Read - [Contents](https://ethaor.com/api/contents): every portion, book and chapter, each named every way - [Chapter](https://ethaor.com/api/chapter?ref=Gen.1): one chapter verse by verse in pointed Hebrew, with the other edition's readings and its neighbours ## Search - [Equidistant letters (ELS)](https://ethaor.com/api/els?word=תורה&skip_min=49&skip_max=49): a Hebrew word spelled across the Tanakh one letter every `skip`, over one skip or a range; consecutive letters are skip 0 - [ELS, streamed](https://ethaor.com/api/els/stream?word=תורה&skip_min=49&skip_max=49): the same search as NDJSON, one line per hit - [First and last letters](https://ethaor.com/api/words?word=אדם): a word spelled by consecutive words of the text, one letter from each — the first, the last (`from_end`), or any letter (`letter`), in order or not (`any_order`) - [Gematria search](https://ethaor.com/api/gematria/search?text=תורה&method=mispar_hapanim): every word, and every run of words of one verse, worth a text's value by one method ## Count - [Gematria](https://ethaor.com/api/gematria?text=תורה): a Hebrew word or phrase valued by every method at once, each named in English and Hebrew with its description ## Optional - [Ethaor](https://ethaor.com/): the map itself, for a person with a browser
